Steam railway flood damage shown
At least nine areas of earthworks were damaged.

A tourist attraction has revealed more images of the damage caused by last month's floods.

Managers at the Severn Valley Railway have appealed for the public's help in meeting a £2m repair bill.

The line, which runs from Bridgnorth in Shropshire to Kidderminster in Worcestershire, suffered landslides in at least nine locations.

The pictures were taken during aerial surveys carried out to assess the extent of the damage.

Managers said the evidence gathered revealed the repair bill would have to double over initial estimates.

The cost to repair the line is expected to run into millions

The railway, which attracts 250,000 visitors annually, was damaged during heavy rain on 19 June.

The railway's Flood Damage Appeal Fund has already brought in more than £150,000.

Development agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM) is offering £500,000 towards track repairs and another £250,000 towards the costs of completing the Engine House, the Severn Valley Railway Visitor and Education Centre at Highley.

The completion of the project has been delayed because of the extensive damage to the railway's infrastructure.

Some £750,000 of European funding is also likely to be granted.

But managers have appealed for the public's help in gathering the rest of the cash.
