Further arrests have been made in connection with £50,000 worth of damage at a County Durham graveyard.

Four men wearing green skirts were seen leaving Pelton cemetery, near Chester-le-Street, on Sunday, when about 80 headstones were knocked over.

Two men aged in their early 20s, from Birtly, Tyne and Wear, were questioned by officers on Thursday morning and released on bail, Durham Police said.

A 23-year-old Pelton man arrested on Wednesday has also been bailed.

A force spokesman said further arrests were likely.

Some of the gravestones ripped from their foundations dated back 150 years, and many were cracked beyond repair.

Relatives visiting the graveyard described the attack as disgraceful.
