Seven North East beaches are officially amongst the healthiest in England after winning prestigious cleanliness awards - two more than last year.
Roker, Seaburn, Tynemouth King Edwards Bay, Tynemouth Longsands South, Whitley Bay and Sandhaven South Shields were all given Blue Flag kite marks.
The international award, run in 36 countries, recognises litter-free sands and clean swimming waters.
Seaton Carew's Foreshore became the region's latest first-time winner.
The Blue Flag, awarded by Environmental Campaigns (ENCAMS), measures 29 criteria from accessibility for disabled visitors through to the number of bins provided, lifeguards and litter levels.
Teresa Jennings, ENCAMS executive director for the north of England, said: "The awards have been running for 20 years now and it's great to see a beach that has never received a flag before getting some glory.
"It is not only testament to the growing popularity and credibility of the awards, but also the hard work of those looking after our beaches across the region, who have made these coastal stretches spotless."
