Jethro Field was found dead when police were called to a house

More time has been given to police who are questioning a man over the murder of a six-year-old boy in Surrey.

Jethro Field was found dead at a house in Farncombe near Godalming on Wednesday morning.

A 52-year-old man handed himself into police in Tywyn, Gwynedd in Wales, 260 miles away, and has since been returned to southern England for questioning.

Police said it was a "domestic incident" but have not confirmed the man's relationship with the boy.

A post-mortem examination on Jethro's body has also now been completed, but Surrey Police said the results could not be released because they were central to the investigation.

Surrey Police must release or charge the man on Saturday morning.

No other suspects

Officers said they were called on Wednesday morning by a member of the public to a house in George Road in Farncombe, following a "domestic" incident. Officers found the boy dead inside.

At lunchtime the same day, two hours later, the man handed himself in to police in Tywyn.

Surrey Ch Supt Kevin Deanus said police were not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said: "The results of the post-mortem examination will not be released as they form part of the investigation and the man has to be further interviewed."

"It is anticipated that the inquest will be opened early next week."

Neighbours had earlier spoken about Jethro.

One, who asked not to be named, said: "He used to visit the house next door to me to play.

"He seemed like a happy little boy. He was called Jethro Field. I used to think of Jethro Tull when I heard his name.

"I did not know the family personally, but they have been living on this road for a few years."
