Lorry driver kidnapped by robbers

A driver was kidnapped by three robbers who drove his lorry from Cambridgeshire to Merseyside then stole his £300,000 load of televisions.

The men burst into the cab of the white Iveco Stralis after the victim parked in a layby off the A14 near Huntingdon.

The robbers ordered the driver to lie down, covered him with a duvet, then drove the lorry along the A14 and onto the M6 to Merseyside on 14 March.

They then unloaded the container of 776 specialist televisions for caravans.

The driver was then released and the lorry was set on fire at the Village Hotel in Fallows Way, Whiston, Merseyside.

Another container was left and recovered by police in Charnock Road, Walton in Liverpool.

The total value of the stolen load, which were sample models, is £292,504.

Det Con Karin Peters, said: "We know there were at least three other HGVs parked in the same layby off the A14 and the drivers of those vehicles may have seen or heard something that could help our investigation.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who may have been offered one of these televisions, which are specifically designed for use in caravans and motor homes."

Det Con Peters added: "Fortunately the driver of the lorry was not hurt, but he was left terrified by the ordeal."
