Floods close market town centre
Access to the centre of Darlington was effectively closed on Saturday because of flash floods, according to police.

The town's Stanhope Street, Northgate Street, St Cuthbert's Way and Parkgate were all closed after water levels rose by about 2ft in a matter of hours.

There were no reports of injuries and no serious damage to properties.

Forecasters say the north-east of England can expect further torrential rain and have warned that up to 3ins could fall in the next 24 hours.
