'Stab' murder accused is remanded

A 20-year-old Gateshead man has been remanded in custody charged with murdering a father-of-two at a party.

Michael Ashley Hill, 23, of Blackhill in Consett, County Durham, was stabbed to death at the house party in Coquet Street, Chopwell, early on Saturday.

John Foley, of Highfield near Rowlands Gill, appeared before Gateshead magistrates accused of his murder.

He will next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 19 December. Another arrested man has been bailed over the death.

Two women were also arrested. One has been bailed, and no further action is being taken against the other.

Mr Hill lived with his partner and had a four-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.
