Regiment stages farewell parades
Soldiers from the RGBW reigment on parade
The new Rifles regiment will come into force next February
Troops from the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire (RGBW) Regiment have staged farewell marches ahead of its merger into a new battalion.

The Light Infantry unit held freedom of the city parades through Bristol and Gloucester on Saturday.

Old comrades, members of the Territorial Army and Army cadets also took part in the marches.

The RGBW is due to change its name, uniform and cap-badge as part of an Army reshuffle.

High calibre

The new Rifles regiment will come into force next February.

The Commanding Officer of RGBW, Lt Col David Brown said: "Exercising our freedoms is a great honour.

"It provides us one final opportunity to thank our counties for their magnificent support to our regiment from its formation in 1994, to our renaming as the 1st Battalion, The Rifles, on 1 February next year and beyond.

"The pace of current operations continues to demand extremely high-calibre soldiers.

"Our recent deployment to Afghanistan proved that Gloucestershire, Bristol, Berkshire and Wiltshire continue to provide the very best."
