A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a man in Spain whose body has never been found.

Stuart Martin, 29, of Bramble Way, Hollingbury, Brighton, was remanded in custody accused of killing British expatriate Francis Ottley, 56.

Mr Ottley, originally from Dover in Kent, had been travelling in Spain but has not been seen since February 2005.

Mr Martin is due to enter a plea to the murder charge when he next appears at Maidstone Crown Court on 13 November.

Mr Ottley left the UK in 2003 and began travelling around the La Linea area of Spain.

Kent Police and Spanish officers began a joint inquiry in April last year, after his friends in the UK received a letter from another expat saying he had gone missing.
