A County Durham woman who stabbed her former lover to death has been jailed indefinitely.

Louisa Ovington attacked Maurice Hilton, 46, of Dormant Villa, Station Town, near Peterlee, at her home in nearby Beechdale Close on 8 January.

She then sent a text to a friend saying she had seen red after he bragged about previous sexual conquests.

The 27-year-old had admitted manslaughter at an earlier hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.

The judge said Ovington was emotionally unstable and had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.

The couple's six-year relationship had been turbulent and they were taking a break, but met up on the night of the stabbing.

The divorced father of three died in hospital a short time after the attack with a kitchen knife.
