An inquest has opened into the death of a man whose dismembered body was found in the boot of a car.
The torso and head of Graham Rayner, 64, of Taverham, Norwich, Norfolk, was found in a green Montego car stopped by police on the A11 in Suffolk on 24 May.
The inquest on Wednesday heard that a post-mortem examination had not yet found the exact cause of death, but Mr Rayner had suffered severe injuries.
The hearing opened and was adjourned for a full inquest at a later date.
Norwich coroner William Armstrong was told that Mr Rayner's daughter Sarah identified his body at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn on 30 May.
The car containing Mr Rayner's body was stopped after reports that a neighbour had seen the headless body of a man in a garage in Attlebridge.
Mr Armstrong said the death was still under police investigation. He said no criminal charges had yet been brought.
A 53-year-old, arrested on suspicion of murdering Mr Rayner, was deemed unfit for interview by medical staff and has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
