Ambulance and health trusts merge
Westcountry Ambulance Service vehicle
Westcountry Ambulance covers Devon, Cornwall and Somerset
The Westcountry Ambulance Service is to merge with the Dorset service as part of a major overhaul of NHS provision.

Westcountry Ambulance Service currently covers Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. The new organisation will be called the South West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

The number of Primary Care Trusts (PCT) in Devon is also being cut. Torbay and Plymouth will remain, but the other six will be merged to form a new Devon PCT.

The new PCT will come into existence in October this year.
