Parking warning for football fans

Football fans are being warned that illegal parking next to the Darlington FC stadium will not be tolerated.

Council wardens patrol the streets close to the stadium before and during each game to ensure a "residents only" parking scheme is not being abused.

However, on Saturday, the number on duty is being doubled as a large crowd is anticipated for the Quakers' home match against Carlisle United.

Motorists found flouting regulations face a £60 on-the-spot fine.

Up to 3,000 away fans are expected to make the journey from Cumbria, creating the potential for a significant build-up of traffic in the area.

The council has supplied Darlington FC with full details on available parking spaces in the town and that information has been passed onto Carlisle supporters.

Home supporters are being encouraged to walk to the ground or use public transport.
