Lightning strikes during Tuesday night's storm
People were braced for more bad weather on Wednesday evening as forecasters warned new storms in the east were on the way.

Ice cube-sized hailstones hit Suffolk and Royal Norfolk Show organisers are prepared for the bad weather.

Forecasters said storms could strike in Beds, Cambs, Suffolk, Norfolk and Northants, bringing possible flooding.

BBC Look East weather presenter Jim Bacon said they were expected to move slowly northwards overnight.

The warning came as clear-up operations was still going in the wake of the damage caused by Tuesday night's bad weather.

Hospital flooding

Flooding caused problems in Luton, Dunstable, Ampthill and Bedford and lightning damaged homes in Milton Keynes, Luton and Irchester and Corby in Northamptonshire.

It was a busy night for fire control rooms with 150 calls for help in Bedfordshire in just two hours and 99 in Hertfordshire.

At the Luton and Dunstable Hospital some ambulances had to be diverted to other hospitals as the deluge flooded the accident and emergency department.

Pumps were installed in drains during the day and the building sandbagged to keep out water.
