An armed robber who stole cash from a petrol station ended up locked inside the garage by a quick-thinking cashier.
The robber went into the BP garage on Dean Road, Ferryhill, on Wednesday night and threatened the 32-year-old cashier with a knife.
As the man took £200 from the till, the cashier made his way out and locked the man inside, before calling police.
However, the knifeman managed to escape by smashing his way out of the garage using a fire extinguisher.
The man is in his 20s, and was wearing a black woolly hat and a dark blue or black long-sleeved top.
Durham Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area around 2140 GMT on Wednesday to contact officers.
