A vicar who featured in a BBC Two reality TV series is returning to work in his home county of Suffolk.

The Rev Jamie Allen, who appeared in A Country Parish when he was a rector in Wiltshire, is to be the new vicar of Great Cornard near Sudbury.

Mr Allen, 34, who grew up in Woodbridge, has served as an assistant priest in Bucks since the TV series.

He said the family, who had been waiting for the right parish, welcomed the move back to Suffolk.

'Exciting times'

Mr Allen said the TV series, which attracted more than three million viewers when it was first broadcast in 2003, was still having an impact on people's lives.

"Only last week I received a card from a viewer, writing from a clergy selection conference.

"He told me that it was A County Parish which had prompted him to explore a vocation," he said.

Mr Allen is due to be licensed at the parish of St Andrew by the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich on Thursday.

He said the move back to Suffolk with his wife, Suzy, and three daughters "feels like going home".

"I am sure that exciting times lie ahead," he said.
