City theatre to get new manager
Durham's Gala Theatre
The theatre building also boasts a cinema
A new manager has been appointed to run the Gala Theatre in Durham.

Simon Stallworthy will take up his post on 4 April following years of experience working in other theatres across England.

The venue, which also boasts a cinema, opened in 2002 but has been hit by financial problems, and Durham City Council took over running the theatre.

The city council's executive director David Marrs said he is delighted with the appointment.

Mr Marrs said: "Simon comes to us at a great time for him and the theatre.

"We are now financially stable and his appointment is the final piece of the jigsaw.

"The experience he has with regard to mid-range theatre and production will enhance the work that has been going on over the past year."
