Thousands have been affected by floods in Cumbria
The North West of England has been put on flood alert after torrential rain affected the region on Sunday night.

The Environment Agency issued 15 flood watches for river basins in Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire on Monday.

Some parts of the region had more than a quarter of October's rainfall in just a few hours.

Motorists were warned to take care in dangerous driving conditions and keep an eye on local weather reports.

More rain is expected from 2000 BST on Monday until midnight.
