Yarl's Wood hanging inquest opens
Manuel Bravo
Mr Bravo faced deportation after living in Leeds for three years
An inquest into the death of an asylum seeker thought to have hanged himself rather than face deportation to his native Angola was opened on Tuesday.

Manuel Bravo, 35, was found at Yarl's Wood detention centre in Bedfordshire on 15 September in the cell he shared with his 13-year-old son Antonio.

The two, who had been living in Armley, Leeds, were due to be deported from the removal centre on the day he died.

Coroner David Morris opened and adjourned the inquest.

It is thought that Mr Bravo's wife, Lydia, and other child, Mellyu, were jailed when they returned to the civil war-scarred African nation last November.

After his father's death Antonio returned to Leeds, where he had lived for three years, under the care of the city's social services.
