Flash floods after heavy downpour
Flash floods in Dartford
Some drivers were forced to abandon their cars in the heavy rain
Torrential downpours caused flash flooding in parts of north Kent and Surrey on Saturday night, leading to problems for motorists.

The heavy rain forced drain hole covers out of the ground, with Dartford town centre badly affected and a section of the A20 near Swanley closed.

Kent Police said motorists were left stranded after broken down vehicles had to be abandoned.

Areas affected in Surrey included Camberley, Weybridge and Esher.

A Surrey Fire Service spokeswoman said a number of homes were struck by lightning, and a few were flooded.

The northbound carriageway of the A3 between Ripley and Wisley was also affected.
