City's schools praised in report

David Bell's report covers the 2003/2004 academic year
Five Bristol infant and primary schools and an early years centre received praise in the 2003/2004 Ofsted report.

Filton Avenue and St Anne's Infants along with the Redcliffe Early Years Centre were "particularly successful" educational institutions.

Bannerman Road, Embleton and Southville Primary Schools - previously in special measures - "improved significantly".

In Gloucestershire, Battledown Children's Centre was among five schools, praised as "outstanding".

The Cheltenham school is facing closure under county council plans to concentrate special needs education on to fewer sites. Chief Inspector of Schools, David Bell, praised its high standard of education.

Other praised are Tibberton and Hardwicke primaries, Gloucester, Thrupp School, Stroud and Chipping Campden.

His report covers specifically the 2003-04 academic year.
