Family bids to trace missing man

The family of a father-of-one who went missing on August Bank Holiday in 2003 has made a new bid to discover what happened to him.

Vinny Derrick, 29, who lived in Partington, Greater Manchester, was last seen leaving the Jabez Clegg nightclub Manchester on 30 August 2003.

The anniversary was marked by his wife Vicky and his mother and friends from Castle Donington, Leicestershire.

They released 1,000 balloons with his image on at noon on Sunday.

Leaflet drop

The group also distributed leaflets with his image on in Heald Green, Greater Manchester.

"Someone out there has information about where he is and I ask them to think about what we are going through and call the police," said Vicky.

Police are also making fresh appeals to trace a taxi driver - possibly Asian - who picked Vinny up in central Manchester at 0015 BST 30 August 2003 and dropped him at the roundabout near John Lewis in Heald Green.

Despite repeated appeals the driver has never come forward and police are now releasing audio of a mobile phone answer message Vinny left on the first name in his address book.

Phone message

The driver said: "You know where you are yeah?"

Vinny replied: "I think so, thank you very much."

The driver responded "You're welcome mate!"

And Vinny's last word was: "Cheers!"

The phone then hangs up.

Vincent is described as white, around 5ft 6in of medium build with short dark brown hair and an East Midlands accent.

In June his image was placed on all two-litre milk cartons sold at the Iceland frozen foods store.
