Football fans top travel league
Football fans in England and Wales are prepared to travel a total of 830.3 million miles a season to support their clubs, a new study has revealed.

Newcastle United supporters were top of the league and will clock up a total of 22.8m miles this season.

The study of 92 league clubs was carried out by Continental Tyres.

Sunderland fans came second at 22.3m miles. Portsmouth fans were in third place, with the survey saying they will travel 21.8m miles.

Continental Tyres, an official partner of next year's World Cup finals in Germany, said fans from all four divisions would travel 830.3m miles this season - nine times the distance between the earth and sun.

The other seven teams to make the high mileage league of most travelled fans were Middlesbrough (19.9m miles), Swansea (19.4m), Luton Town (18m), Oldham Athletic (17.9m), Rotherham United (17.5m), Chelsea (17.2m) and Tottenham Hotspur (16.8m).
