Officers in court on rape charge
Surrey Police
The officers are based in Guildford
Two police officers have appeared in court charged with raping a woman while they were on duty.

The men, both constables with Surrey Police, are said to have raped a 23-year-old woman in September 2003 and were suspended from duty on 22 January.

Pc Mark Witcher, 29, and Pc Andrew Lang, 30, both based at Guildford police station, appeared before Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday.

They did not enter a plea and were released on bail until 30 April.

Colleagues reported concerns

The two officers are accused of raping a woman at her home in Godalming, Surrey, on 20 September.

Their alleged victim is said to not be a member of police staff and the two men are both facing two counts of rape.

Surrey Police has said the allegations came to light when other members of staff reported their concerns to senior officers.

Pc Witcher, of Drayton, Portsmouth, and Pc Lang, of Whitehill, Hampshire, were released on bail.

They are due back in Winchester Crown Court on 30 April.
