No frills bus service launched
Fares for the new Northern service start at just 1
A new "no frills" bus service is offering travel between Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds for just 1 from Monday.

Stagecoach launched its service in the North after the success of similar services out of London and Edinburgh.

Tickets for the Megabus service will be available on the internet only and must be reserved at least an hour in advance.

Ray Cossins, Commercial Director for Stagecoach in Manchester, says the bright blue and yellow buses are targeted at students and drivers looking for a cheap and cheerful way to travel.

"We've got experience elsewhere," he says. "We started with Oxford to London, that's been very popular. Some in Scotland, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow. So the next branch is Manchester."
