Circus world records broken
A knife-thrower and hula-hoop spinner have both broken world records.

A park in Warrington hosted their attempts, as part of events on the first National Circus Day.

Knife thrower Jayde Hanson managed to throw 235 blades at a human target in less than two minutes, while Yana Rodinoff span 95 hula hoops at once.

Both members of Cottle and Austen Circus the records were broken in Warrington's Victoria Park on Tuesday, 235 years to the day since the UK's first circus was established.

National Circus Day has been set up by the Circus Arts Forum, as a means of generally promoting circuses.

The Captive Animals Protection Society, which campaigns against the use of animals in circuses, has urged supporters to use National Circus Day as an opportunity to promote its cause.
