Stress lowest in East Midlands

People in the East Midlands are at the top of the "chill-out" table in a stress survey released by a pharmaceutical company.

The results showed that 36% of people living in the East Midlands claimed they were not stressed out.

Overall, the survey said that nearly half of the UK's residents - about 48% - suffered from headaches as a result of stress and tension.

The most common source of tension was children, but relationships and money also caused stress - both being mentioned by 24% of respondents.

Weddings were only reported by 3% of respondents as the cause of stress, while 6% said commuting was a big stress factor.

The survey, carried out by the makers of the pain-killer Syndol, said 58% of women said they suffered from headaches.

Christmas was a source of stress for 21% of respondents in the West Midlands, but only 6% across the border in the East Midlands.

The survey showed that other regions with low-stress ratings were Scotland (35%), South West (33%) and North East (33%).

The regions with the least resistance to stress with were Wales (12%), the North West (17%) and the West Midlands (19%).

The survey was conducted in early March and more than 1,000 people across the UK were interviewed.
