Detectives hunting the killer of schoolgirl Hannah Foster say they are preparing extradition procedures, to bring a main suspect back to the UK from India.

On Friday police confirmed they had a prime suspect for the killing, a man who left the UK for India two days after Hannah's body was found.

They are currently working with Interpol to locate the man in India.

Seventeen-year-old Hannah was abducted in Portswood, Southampton, as she walked home from a night out with friends on 14 March.

Her body was found two days later by the side of a road in West End, around four miles from where she disappeared.

Police confirmed on Friday that Hannah had been raped.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are preparing a file for the Crown Prosecution Service who will deal with the administration of any extradition procedures.

"We are working with Interpol to locate the suspect in India."

The suspect, who police have declined to name, is reported to have caught a flight to India on 18 March.

On Thursday, police cordoned off a house in Broadlands Road, Swaythling, and searched the premises.

Police had previously issued appeals to trace an Asian man who had talked to Hannah on two occasions close to her home and had called her by her name.

They were investigating the theory that Hannah had been stalked by that man.
