'Screams heard' say Hannah police

Hannah called police on her mobile on the night she disappeared
A witness has reported hearing screams on the night teenager Hannah Foster is believed to have been abducted and murdered, detectives have said.

A 63-year-old woman has told Hampshire Police she heard the screams between 2300 GMT and 2315 GMT last Friday - minutes after Hannah was last seen.

The 17-year-old's body was later discovered in Allington Lane, West End, Southampton on Sunday, two days after she disappeared.

She had been strangled.

The witness was sitting in her lounge in her Portswood home, Southampton, when she heard the screams, she told police.

She said the noise came from the corner of Richmond Gardens and Grosvenor Road - the street where Hannah lived.

Hannah was last seen at 2250 GMT by a female friend who got on to a bus - not far from where the screams are reported to have come from.

Ten minutes later Hannah made a 999 call from her mobile but police say no discernible noises were heard during the two minute call.

Detective Inspector Tony Adams said: "Although we have to keep an open mind with regard to all the information received in this investigation, this latest information may be quite significant."

On Friday morning, detectives carried out another detailed search of the area where the teenager's body was found.

Hannah, who had won a place to study medicine at university, was found in undergrowth by the side of the road.

Police also want to trace the driver of a dumper truck, and two taxi drivers seen near the scene last Saturday, the day after the A-level pupil is believed to have been abducted.

A man was questioned on Wednesday afternoon in Southampton but later released.

Detectives are still looking for an Asian man, who approached Hannah twice in the past two months close to her home and called her by her name.

On Monday Hannah's bag and mobile phone were found in a recycling dump in Portsmouth.

It is believed the items had been thrown into a bottle bank in Portsmouth or Southsea.
