Sharp job requires steel nerves
A knife thrower's assistant preparing for an audition
Adverts for the job were put up in two job centres
Auditions for a knife-thrower's assistant are taking place on Merseyside on Tuesday.

The world's largest circus is expecting to put about 30 people to the test after putting adverts in job centres.

The Cottle and Austen Circus, which is currently based at New Brighton, has encouraged both men and women to apply.

With the successful candidate needing to be prepared to face 10 knives thrown at them at 60mph each, circus bosses warned the job is not for the faint-hearted.

The adverts in the job centres in Wirral and Liverpool also stated the person who takes up the position must be ready to perform in two shows a day until November.

Circus spokesman John Haze said: "All the applicants need to have nerves of steel and more faith than the Pope."
