Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward
Two shots have been fired at a uniformed police officer who was chasing two men down an alleyway in a north London.

Scotland Yard said the police constable was on patrol in a car in Nags Head Road, Ponders End, when he was stopped by a member of the public.

She claimed she had seen two men apparently dealing in drugs in an alleyway nearby.

He went to investigate and when the two men saw him they ran off.

The officer gave chase and one of the suspects turned round and fired two shots from a handgun.

The constable, who is based at Edmonton, was not injured but the suspects escaped.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward, in particular the Asian woman who originally flagged the officer down.

They also want to trace a G-registered dark hatchback car that was seen driving away shortly after the shots were fired.
