'I've killed kids' tape played
Brett Wilson, aged eight, and his seven-year-old brother Bradley
Steven Wilson denies murdering the two boys
A jury has heard tapes of a father calling the emergency services and confessing to killing his two boys.

Birmingham Crown Court was told on Thursday that Steven Wilson, 44, made the calls on his mobile phone after stabbing the children with a screwdriver.

Brett Wilson, eight, and his seven-year-old brother Brad, were discovered in a car parked at the Hilltop and Manwood Farm Golf Course, Park Lane, Handsworth, in February last year.

Mr Wilson, of Linden Avenue, Great Barr, Birmingham, denies murdering his sons and causing actual bodily harm to his wife on 6 February 2002.

The prosecution claims Mr Wilson drove the boys to the isolated spot where he slit Brad's throat and plunged a screwdriver into Brett's neck before stabbing himself.

The jury used earphones to listen to three recordings of Mr Wilson taken by emergency operators.

During one call to operator Deborah Cooper, he said: "I have just killed the kids and I am killing myself."

Mr Wilson also confided that his wife Denise had left him.

In another conversation, with operator Jayne Lambe, the alleged murderer said of his wife: "She said she wished she had no kids. She has got what she wanted."

Fading pulse

Mr Wilson repeatedly refused say where he was, claiming to be in Bewdley in Worcestershire.

In the final call, he said: "I've stabbed the kids in the neck. They're at the side of me."

Mr Wilson then claimed his pulse was getting weak, adding: "I have stabbed myself ... in the arm and in my throat."

Mr Wilson is also accused of repeatedly punching his wife Denise Williams and trying to run her over during a meeting shortly before the killings, which happened days after she decided to end their nine-year marriage.

Ms Williams, who has reverted to her maiden name, broke down in court on Wednesday after being accused of helping unidentified "assassins" to kill the children.

The trial continues.
