Text messaging service for city airport

The airport hopes the system will save 'time and effort'
Bristol International Airport is offering a new hi-tech service to people waiting for planes to arrive.

Text mesages with information about delays and arrival times will be sent to anyone who wants them.

The system is being pioneered by the airport's IT department which hopes to save people having to ring up the airport.

People register online for free and can receive up to three messages about the flight they are interested in. Each message costs 50p.

'Invaluable information'

Airport duty manager Tom Hack said: "This system will save a lot of time and effort."

Richard Moore, the airport's IT manager said: "This new service is great news for our passengers.

"The benefit of receiving current information so easily and quickly is invaluable.

The system only applies to arrival times and the telephone service is still available.

The information available is whether a flight is arriving more than 15 minutes before or after the scheduled time, if it is cancelled and when it has landed.
