An 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a jogger in an east London park has been released on bail.

Detectives investigating the death of American artist Margaret Muller arrested the teenager at his home in Hackney, east London at 0620 GMT on Thursday.

Miss Muller, 27, was stabbed while out running in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets at around 0830 GMT on 3 February.

The park was busy with cyclists, joggers and people walking their dogs at the time.

On Monday, one month to the day after the murder, 93 people returned to the scene to retrace their steps as part of London's largest crime reconstruction.

The park was closed for four hours while 100 police officers and 100 support staff helped mark and map people's positions.

The information was to be translated into a 3D computer image to allow detectives to move around a computerised version of the crime scene.

Miss Muller moved to London from the US in 1998 and studied and worked at the Slade School of Fine Art.

As a student, she supplemented her income by painting and had a studio in the converted factory in Hackney in which she lived.

Her parents Erich and Eileen and sister Theresa flew to the UK from their home in Falls Church, Virginia, to take part in police appeals after Miss Muller's death.

Thursday's arrest was carried out by Scotland Yard's specialist crime unit.

The 18-year-old, who was questioned at an east London police station, has been bailed to return in April.
