A teacher has appeared in court accused of assault after allegedly holding a sword to a schoolgirl's throat.
Christopher Lycett, 45, of Durkar, near Wakefield, was arrested on Sunday night.
Wakefield magistrates were told that Mr Lycett allegedly threw an aerosol can before holding up the sword.
Mr Lycett was charged with common assault on the girl who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The events did not involve the Barnsley school where he teaches.
Mr Lycett's solicitor indicated his client would plea not guilty to the attack.
The case was adjourned until April and Mr Lycett was released on conditional bail.
