Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion
The safety of a Sheffield building site is being questioned after three unexploded World War II shells are discovered in a month.

Residents in Norfolk Parade had to leave their homes for three hours on Monday following the latest find on a nearby landfill site.

It had been transported from a building site on Carlisle Street where two previous shells have been found by workmen.

Burngreave councillor Steve Jones said: "It's appalling that people aren't on top of this situation and that we are just responding to it.

"I have asked for an immediate inquiry by the Health and Safety Executive, the council and police."

The army bomb disposal team from Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire was called to carry out a controlled explosion in each case.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said the area being worked on had very old buildings and it was possible other shells would be discovered.
