The shelter will provide a home for 60 cats
Work has started on a new shelter for stray cats in Herefordshire at a cost of £500,000.

The Herefordshire branch of the Cats Protection League has been fundraising for more than a decade to raise the funds needed to build the shelter.

It will provide a home for more than 60 animals and will replace a number of smaller centres.

The shelter at Allensmore, near Herefordshire, is expected to be completed in August and will be run by a manager living on site.

Last year the charity found new homes for 360 cats, neutered more than 300 and reunited 26 animals with their owners.

Volunteers will now have to concentrate on raising the £50,000 needed every year to run the shelter.
