Some of Telford's underpasses are to be filled in because of concerns about safety.
Work will be carried out on 10 underpasses over the next few weeks, according to Telford and Wrekin Borough Council.
The authority said some of the town's underpasses fail to meet structural standards for road bridges.
A further concern is that many people see underpasses as a haven for criminals.
Some will be replaced by crossings at road level.
Work on the sites, including three in Brookside and two on Sutton Hill, must start by April to qualify for money from Advantage West Midlands.
