Robbers stole a BMW after stabbing the driver on a remote country lane in Bedfordshire.
The victim and a friend, both men in their late 50s, were travelling along Chaul
End Lane in Caddington, near Luton, when they were forced to stop by a row of tyres placed in the road.
They were confronted by two men wearing balaclavas.
The driver was stabbed in the thigh after the robbers pulled the two men from the car and
demanded money.
The gang drove off in the silver BMW followed by a white vehicle driven by a third offender, who had cleared the road.
The driver, who has not been named, was treated in Dunstable Hospital.
'Terrifying attack'
A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: "We urgently need to hear from anyone who can help us catch the men behind this terrifying attack.
"If anyone sees the BMW registration number KD5 DZL then please call us immediately.
"It was last seen driving towards Luton after the attack."
The two men who carried out the attack were described as 5 ft 8 ins tall and of large build.
They were both wearing balaclavas but one of the victims noticed one of the attackers was white.
There was no description of the third man.
