'Human shield' to guard power station
Baghdad
Godfrey Meynell travelled to Baghdad by bus
A Derbyshire man acting as a human shield in Iraq will base himself at a power station with other campaigners.

Godfrey Meynell, from Kirk Langley, travelled overland across Europe and the Middle East to get to Baghdad.

Mr Meynell, a former High Sheriff of Derbyshire, travelled with other peace activists on a London bus.

They finally arrived in the Iraqi capital earlier this week after problems getting permission to travel through Turkey.

Mr Meynell is currently staying at a hotel in the city, but he and other campaigners will soon move to a power station in the south of the Iraqi capital.

He says it is vital to protect the failing electricity supply which provides energy to hospitals.

On Wednesday, the UK Foreign Office warned all British citizens to leave Iraq because of growing tensions.
