Dramatic rise in road deaths
Snowy road
The bad weather may be to blame for the rise in deaths
The number of people killed on Lincolnshire's roads in the first seven weeks of this year is the largest recorded in nearly a decade.

Since the beginning of 2003 15 people have been killed in the county.

The latest victim was a young girl who died in Whaplode St Catherine, near Spalding on Monday.

Police also released the name of a woman who died in a road crash near Louth earlier on Monday.

Cold roads

Janet McGill, who was 43 and from Cherry Willingham near Lincoln, was killed in a collision on the A16 at Utterby.

Despite the dramatic increase in deaths, Inspector John Morris insists the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership is working

He said: "The figures give us concern but the partnership does work - I can assure you of that.

"We will continue in our work to reduce the number of casualties and make the roads of Lincolnshire safer."

Police are warning motorists to take more care during the cold snap.

They say roads can still be treacherous at this time of year, even when the the weather looks fine.
