Police were called to Brindley Drive

A 29-year-old Birmingham man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a three-year-old boy who was stabbed in the chest.

James Michael Pinsent was remanded in custody at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Police were called to Brindley Drive, in the city centre, at about 1650 GMT on Monday where they found the injured child.

The boy is being treated at the Diana Princess of Wales Birmingham Children's Hospital, where his condition is described as poorly, but stable.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Mr Pinsent, of Ladywood, Birmingham, was ordered to appear at the city's crown court on 26 February.
