School web scheme success

The council is ahead of national targets
The majority of schools in Shropshire have got improved internet access after the county council exceeded national targets.

Schools across England are being connected to the broadband network, which provides faster links to the web, as part of a government-funded project.

The council said 138 out of 166 schools had had their internet access upgraded.

The authority has promised a further 23 schools will have broadband access by next month.

But engineers are facing difficulties installing the facilities at the remaining five schools.

Examples of obstacles they have already had to overcome include the laying of cables under a river and over a railway bridge in order to provide broadband access to a school in Ashford Carbonell.
