Planners meet over school modernisation
Classroom
Pupils still have the use of an outside toilet
The future of the last primary school in the country with outside toilets is set to be decided in North East Lincolnshire.

Planning officers will visit East Ravendale School on Monday to look for a compromise over plans to modernise the school, which is over 150 years old.

They objected to original proposals for a new school amid claims it would not fit in with the local area of outstanding beauty.

Issues over potential traffic and access problems were also raised.

Compromise hopes

But North East Lincolnshire Council's planning committee hopes a solution can be found.

Chairman Alan Burley told BBC Radio Humberside: "I would like to think there is a way forward because quite clearly there is a need for the school to be improved.

"There is clearly a need for the school to be kept in Ravendale to be the focus and the hub of the local community."

"Hopefully when we go on the site members may be able to see a way forward to bring the school into the modern day."
