Man killed as car and tram collide
Accident scene in Priestfield
The accident happened on a level crossing
A man has died after his car collided with a tram on the Midlands Metro line in Wolverhampton.

The incident happened just before 1230 GMT on Saturday in the Priestfield area of the city.

It is believed the collision took place at the Priestfield station on a crossing near to the exit for a car park.

West Midlands Police, British Transport Police and West Midlands Fire Service are all at the scene.

'Scant service'

Phil Bateman, from Travel Midland Metro, says a limited service is now in operation while British Transport Police investigate the accident.

He told BBC WM: "At the moment we are operating between Wednesbury and Birmingham and Birmingham and Wednesbury.

"A single line shuttle will be running between Bilston and Wednesbury but that is a very scant service.

"Passengers can expect disruption on the line for several more hours and it is likely a full service will not be operating until early this evening."
