Snooks was popular with visitors to the waterfront
A statue of a well-loved dog was stolen from the seafront in Aldeburgh.

Snooks usually sits near to Moot Hall, but disappeared on Wednesday night.

Town clerk Andrew Harris told BBC Radio Suffolk that the statue and Snooks himself have been an important part of the town.

He said: "Although he was quite a scruffy individual, he was very much loved by Aldeburgh and was part of Aldeburgh for many many years.

"There seem to be an awful lot of small statues and garden furniture going walkabout.

"I can only hope it will turn up somewhere with someone who knows it and recognises it."

The original Snooks belonged to Dr PM Acheson and his wife Dr Nora Acheson, who worked in the borough for several years from 1939.
