Army firefighters' bravery hailed
The soldiers rescued the mother and baby from a flat
Two soldiers who rescued a mother and her baby from their burning Liverpool home during a fire strike have been hailed for their bravery.
Privates Duncan Smith and Lee North are to receive commendations from Merseyside Police at a ceremony on Monday attended by Kelly Turner and her baby son Jay. The 24-year-old soldiers from the Queen's Lancashire regiment were part of a Green Goddess team which went to the fire in Kirkby in November last year. They were called to the block of flats in Benwick Road on 29 November. The soldiers rescued Ms Turner and then four-week Jay from a first floor flat. Chief Superintendent Paul Turner will lead the ceremony at police headquarters.
