Fans to name City streets
The City of Manchester stadium
The stadium was built for the Commonwealth Games
Manchester City Football Club wants supporters to name streets surrounding its new stadium.

The club moves from Maine Road to the City of Manchester Stadium - which hosted the Commonwealth Games - next season.

It hopes fans will come up with suggestions for the streets leading up to the new ground in the Beswick area of the city.

Maine Road has been City's home since 1923.

Capture 'spirit'

Manchester City managing director Chris Bird said: "We are currently looking into the issue of road naming with Manchester City Council, and in the meantime we would value supporters input into the possibilities.

"There are two or three roads which service the stadium which may well need to be renamed."

Mr Bird said suggestions included former City players, managers or something to "capture the spirit and heritage" of the club.

The City of Manchester stadium was completed last year for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games.
