Row over 'disloyal' mayor
A mayor is being accused of disloyalty for deciding to entertain a visiting US dignitary in a neighbouring county.

Joan Collip, mayor of Tewkesbury, is playing host to her opposite number from the town of the same name in New Jersey.

But she wants to take the American mayor to the Fox and Hounds in Bredon, just across the Worcestershire border.

Tewkesbury hoteliers have complained, but pub landlord Mike Hardwicke said he was only two miles out of the town and near enough to be considered local.


Mother to travel for hearing

A mother is racing to get to Spain for a court hearing over custody of her daughter.

Tracy Howard who lives near Stroud, says she is trying to raise money to travel to Alicante. The hearing is due to take place on Thursday.

Five year old Lucy was taken to Spain last November by her father, former Gloucester magistrate and bank manager David Latham.

But Tracy has launched legal action to try to win her daughter back.


Lifestyle book to be launched

A book with information for young persons is being launched in Gloucestershire on Wednesday.

It is aimed at 14 to 25-year-olds and contains information on a wide variety of lifestyle issues including money, employment, sex and relationships.

The booklet has been produced by Grapevine Gloucestershire which is an information and advice service for young people.

The group also run drop-in centres in Gloucester and Cheltenham.


Pilot up for award after saving plane

A pilot has been nominated for an award in recognition of his quick thinking which saved his aeroplane and all its passengers.

The Cheltenham pilot safely made an emergency landing on Worthing beach in May 2002.

He has been selected for the Civil Aviation Authority General Aviation Safety Awards.

Christopher Linton managed to land his plane despite losing the only engine and being blinded by oil and smoke.
