Shoe found in Rachel search
Diver in drainage channel in Hull
Police divers have been searching a drainage channel
Police searching for 21-year-old Rachel Moran have found a training shoe and a diary, both believed to belong to the missing woman.

Miss Moran vanished in the early hours of New Year's Day after leaving her parents' house to walk home.

The items were found after the police moved their search a quarter of a mile along a drainage channel where her handbag and passport were discovered earlier.

Police brought in lights to allow them to continue searching after dark on Sunday.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are now looking at a second search area.

"The discovery of property which we now know belongs to Rachel is extremely worrying although we have to stay open-minded to every eventuality.

"We will continue with our search and appeal for information until we find out exactly what has happened to Rachel."

'Very distraught'

Miss Moran's family were immediately informed after her passport was found on Hull's Orchard Park Estate on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday they had appealed for anyone who may know where she is to help.

Miss Moran's brother John, who went to a club with her earlier on New Year's Eve, said: "At the moment as a family we are just about holding together.

"We are trying to comfort each other and Rachel's boyfriend Mark as best we can but, as you will appreciate, we are all very much distraught."

'Good spirits'

He said the family were desperate for news and that "coping with our distress is becoming more and more difficult by the hour".

On Saturday police said they hoped to speak to a man heard asking after her in the street a few hours before she went missing.

They do not know whether she was abducted, the victim of an accident, or if she simply decided to go away for a while.

Police are scouring CCTV footage for clues and are using the Home Office's Holmes major incident computer system to co-ordinate information.
